Annona senegalensis rootstock? Annona grafting?

Hello all,

Wondering if anyone has ever heard of using Annona senegalensis as rootstock for grafting any of the other more common species in the Annona family like:

Cherimoya ‘A. cherimola
Soursop ‘A. muricata
Sugar Apple ’ A. squamosa
Atemoya ’ Annona squamosa × Annona cherimola

Just asking because I’ve seen Annona senegalensis all over the place growing wild and wondering if that would be helpful for getting stronger trees for a West African context than just using the seeds from the respective species. I’m not sure how much grafting is done for Annona’s but just wondering if anyone here has some thoughts.

@Bryan_Beachy have you tried this?

If you share some seeds, I will let you know after 1 year, if Annona senegalensis is a good rootstock. :upside_down_face::stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

I dont have any experience with the species. But, I can give you an advice - it is better to chip-bud graft Annonas than to graft. Two Annona species, which are known to be graft incompatible, easily merge together when chip-bud grafted.
