I am shocked at how quickly farming in the Philippines is being decimated.
Like a slow motion train wreck I am seeing it happen among my neighbors who are farmers. One threw part of his eggplant harvest away because he couldn’t get a good price. I wondered why he was buying coconut liquor days before this. His loss was others gain. The news of his loss spread quickly as people walked past our house with bags to get some from where he had dumped it.
Another farmer who grew pechay or bokchoy said it was not worth selling once the price of transporting it to market was factored in. She is very poor and now this is making things worse.
