Have you used MSG as a fertilizer?

We bought some vegetable powder at a cheap price.
We were hoping it didn’t have MSG in it, but couldn’t tell as all the ingredients were in Chinese.
When the product arrived we uploaded a pic to translate it.
Oh no!! :scream:
First ingredient is MSG, and the pretty box with vegetables on it said it was made in China.

What to do? :fearful:

Dump it ?

No, I am to cheap - I mean frugal for that!

I looked online and found it is being used as a fertilizer for plants. :coconut: :hot_pepper:

Here is an except from BRAVE browser AI:

“Monosodium glutamate (MSG) can be used as a fertilizer and is considered beneficial for plant growth due to its rich nutrient content.
It is produced through the fermentation of plant-based ingredients like corn, sugar beet, sugar cane, or cassava, classifying it as an organic fertilizer.
MSG contains essential nutrients for plants, including nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium, calcium, magnesium, sulfate, and ammonium, along with organic matter and various amino acids that support healthy plant development.
The amino acids in MSG can enhance plant robustness and improve resistance to stress…”

And This:

On YT there are many videos in Tagalog from the Philippines praising it.
This one has over 2 million views:

I plan now to use it on my dwarf coconut seedlings and others, like pepper or calamansi (citrus) in small amonts.

Do you know what MSG is? Monosodium glutamate is one sodium ion combined with one glutamate ion. Glutamate is one of the basic amino acids that make up the protein in your body and sodium is one of the most abundant ions in your blood. Basically every food that has protein has MSG in it. Breast milk has MSG in it. Your blood always has MSG in it. Your tongue was designed by God with special sodium and glutamate receptors as two of only a very few type of taste receptors on your tongue. That doesn’t mean it is the best thing to eat in large quantities but just something to consider.

Thanks Joel :cowboy_hat_face: That sounds a lot less scary.
