Join the team - The Ripple Effect in Guatemala

Michael Ewens at The Ripple Effect in Guatemala is looking to hire Farm Accommodation Managers.

Position: Farm Accommodation Managers/Guest Hosts
Location: Chel, Chajul del Quiche, Guatemala
Organization: The Ripple Effect (TRE), a 501c3 non-profit
Salary: Based on experience and commitment
Type: Full-time, Live-in, Paid Position

About the Position:

The Ripple Effect is seeking an energetic, committed, and qualified couple to manage and host guests at Eden Ixil, a sustainable farm and lodge nestled on a beautiful organic farm at the edge of the Visis Cabá Biosphere Reserve in the tropical highlands of western Guatemala. This is an incredible opportunity to live in a serene, off-grid location while contributing to meaningful humanitarian work through your management and hosting role.

The position is ideal for a couple with an adventurous attitude and strong work ethic, who are passionate about eco-tourism, sustainability, and community-based development, and who thrive in a remote and cross-cultural environment.

Qualities We Seek:

  • Bilingual in English/Spanish: The primary language spoken in the villages is Maya Ixil. Fluency in both English and Spanish is essential for effective communication with staff, guests, and community members.
  • Exceptional People Skills: You’ll be the heart of our guest and staff interactions, ensuring a welcoming, respectful, and positive environment. Whether managing a team or attending to guests’ needs, your ability to foster relationships and be a supportive steward in the broader community is key.
  • Computer Skills & Social Media: Proficiency in computer skills and social media is important for tasks like record-keeping, budget management, and advertising. You’ll also be responsible for quarterly reporting to the TRE Foundation.
  • Experience with Off-Grid Living: A deep understanding and experience in off-grid living will help you thrive in our unique environment.

About Us:

Eden Ixil is a beautiful 10 acre farm that is central to many of the The Ripple Effect’s programs. Our initiatives focus on sustainable development in 12 local villages, including:

  • Building potable water systems and eco-friendly cooking stoves
  • Constructing homes and schools
  • Offering educational workshops on vegetable gardening, nutrition, and reforestation
  • Providing seeds and seedlings for gardening, reforestation, and medicinal plants
  • Conducting community trash clean-ups

The Eden Ixil site is located just outside the Maya Ixil village of Chel. In addition to the gardens and plant nursery, the site features a 4-room lodge, two adobe homes, and a stream with two large ponds. It serves as a hub for many community training activities. Village leaders are invited to learn gardening skills and participate in nutrition education workshops. The site also includes a large storage space where seeds are stored for distribution, plants are dried for use in herbal medicines, and materials are kept for construction projects.
