Seeking advice on food forest techniques and water harvesting practices in Kurdistan regions. What have you seen work well for small-scale farmers? What are some of the biggest challenges you face?

Basic climate info:
elevation 1935 ft (590M)
Dry and hot summers with cold wet winters
annual rain 500 - 700mm
summer high 50.C
winter low -3.C

Presumably pistachio and almonds would do well. Also mesquite.
