Large Ponds (Thailand)

I noticed on the Asia seed bank video that the location had some very large man-made ponds. Could anybody who has local knowledge in Thailand point me towards the resources for large dependable liners or other pond making technology (natural sealants)? Thank you in advance.

Hello Simon,
Permaculture Institute Thailand here. What is the planned use of the pond ?

Simply a organic pool - here is a link to some references.

Just trying to bring this thread back to life… anyone have resources for large dependable pond liners in Thailand so I can move my pond project forward. It has been a year since we dug the hole and it is time!!

I may know of some companies. Can you give me dimensions? I assume you’re in Koh Chang - I will ask around to see what the pricing for those dimensions will be. I think shipping will be a little pricey so I will investigate for you as well. Let me know of the dimensions!

Thank you for your offer of help, it is much appreciated. Let me measure the area tomorrow and perhaps even draw a diagram. Here is the initial dig (last year after the rains) and the objective… https://imgur.com/a/m9zieKN

If you have access to pigs and fence them for a while in a new pond they will seal the whole thing in short order. This is a practice used by the Europeans for hundreds of years and works even on more permeable soils since manure and destruction of the soil profile both seal the pond. People also use a layer of lime or a layer of manure to seal the pond. In fact you can use just about any organic material to seal the pond if you put a few inches and they often recommend a layer of soil over the top of up to 8 inches of organic matter. You may not need to go to all that expense depending on what you are using the pond for.
