Mulching for chickens

I got an idea: The article written by Clint Bower about mulching in Haiti said that if you mulch a field you will attract crickets, especially with bean crops. Well, beans, crickets and other insects are very good feed for chickens. I wonder if some some area with bad quality soil could be rejuvenated by growing low cost beans and other vegetables and mulch plants, solely for feeding chickens?
May be that could be done for a few seasons, then the soil would be in better shape to grow crops for human consumption.

Yes, it will definitely improve the soil. Depending on the variety of legume, it will also break up hard pans and stuff. And if you plant pigeon pea as well in the area, it will also provide some protection from predatory birds.

Predator birds. I did not think about that. It could be a very big problem. Il we grow a mixed green manure, we could incorporate big plants like grain amaranth in the mix with beans to make a cover for the chickens. There is probably many other possibilities.
