Hello! I’m an incoming third-year Agriculture student majoring in Crop Science in the Philippines. This academic year, we’ll be working on our thesis. I’m hoping to focus on a quantitative experimental postharvest-related studyon Major Crops in the Philippines because I prefer a research topic that can be completed within about one month. Since I’ll also be dealing with my residency, I want to make sure I can finish my study on time and avoid any delays in graduation.
I’ve tried browsing Google Scholar for possible quantitative experimental postharvest studies and looking through the recommendations of published papers, but I haven’t found many studies that fit what I’m looking for.
That’s why I’m here. Do you have any quantitative experimental postharvest-related thesis titles, topics, or research ideas that I could use as inspiration? Any suggestions would be a huge help. Thank you so much!
Thanks for sharing and for your interest. Are you interested in minor crops as well? There is less research on post-harvest strategies for many of the minor crops, such as Ube (Dioscorea bulbifera), Vegetable Fern (Diplazium esculentum), Winged bean (Psophocarpus tetragonolobus), Sayote (Sechium edule), or Ampalaya (Momordica charantia).
The effects of different hydrocooling practices or submergence temperatures on the storage life of the vegetable fern are a quantitative idea or the same study for winged beans or winged bean leaves.
Storage of crops like Sayote or Ube may be prolonged by packing in sand and/or ash if storage is a constraint. You could try different ratios of ash and/or sand and then evaluate different metrics at the end (brix, color, circumference, weight).
