We’re living in a very hilly area in the mountains of Haiti. We’ve experimented with both traditional napier grass and vetiver for contour lines. The vetiver does really poorly; it’s just not hot enough here. It grows painfully slowly. The napier grass grows amazingly quickly but it does suck up nutrition from the soil nearby. We would really like to source dwarf napier grass. The local population is already using the napier grass as a fodder crop so it would be an easy sell to switch over to a dwarf variety. We can buy it in the US or in a decent swath of Haiti but the southern peninsula and around Port-au-Prince would be out of reach.
