Hi, I am looking for case studies and experience to understand how to take an AT tool or implement from a successful trial to being something that is manufactured locally or imported by a business and bought by local farmers.
I’ll give 2 examples to help explain.
Example 1 - We are trialing the Maresha ripper/seeder in South Sudan. If this gives good results and is desired by the farmers, they will be willing to buy it at a competitive price. But a local entrepreneur will be hesitant to start manufacturing before there is a good market for the Maresha seeder. On the flip side, the farmers will not be able to buy it if it is not available locally.
Example 2 - One of our partner organizations developed a planter made from a bicycle. They do not want to be the manufacturer of the planter. But it is hard to get a local entrepreneur to manufacture it before the market for it has developed.
I am looking for case studies and examples where an organization either successfully or unsuccessfully helped make this transition from a successful trial to the for-profit market. Thank you!
