This is a great set of training materials for Forest Garden homestead development by Trees for the Future. This material was funded in part by USAID, so publishing here since the USAID infrastructure has been negatively impacted by misguided activities recently.
It is a MASSIVE PDF of 250MB and over 500 pages but there doesn’t seem to be any way to download this…
Has anyone else figured out how to download this? I don’t understand how they are expecting people in the developing world to access this information if it cannot be downloaded. While high quality photos are nice, 250MB is massive for a PDF. It really frustrates me when organizations like this make things prohibitively difficult for the very people they are trying to help…
I was able to download it from the UN site that is now hosting it. But I agree with the concerns about accessibility to this information in developing contexts, including lack of local language translations. I’ve converted the earlier versions of their docs (Tech Manual, Trainers Manual, Farmers Workbooks) into Word Docs and broken them down into smaller docs for the purposes of a first cut translation using Google Translate Documents feature. You can find these intermediate documents here: Permaculture Forest Gardens - Google Drive
I think we should be looking at ways to make this info more available/accessible to local advocates and teachers with translated versions for printing locally in nearby cities for use by our partners there.
